Water resources have historically played a crucial role in shaping cities, and their importance is once again coming to the forefront in the context of current climate challenges. One of the key issues is the systematic warming of urban areas, known as the urban heat island effect. This phenomenon causes higher temperatures in densely built-up areas, leading to a decline in quality of life, an increased risk of health complications, and higher cooling costs. Addressing this problem requires a transformation of public space, where water also plays a pivotal role.
This project focuses on the design of a public drinking fountain that fullfils basic functions - allowing for bottle refilling, hand washing, and providing water for animals. The main feature of the fountain is a large rotating wheel that functions as a valve. This mechanical component represents a return to simple, physical control, which has gradually disappeared from many modern public facilities.
